Common Health Problems Of Cats.

If you are new to having a cat, you may be surprised to find that health problems are common. No matter what kind of cat you have, health problems are expected. Some can be hereditary, while others can be easily protected.

Worms

No matter what kind of cat it is, larvae are a common and recurring problem. Tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms are among the most common infections in cats. Cats that have problems with weight gain, have problems with fleas, or if they find white spots in their cell, your veterinarian should test them for worms. Although they can not be treated with medication, the worms can kill if left untreated.

Hair

Hairballs are a common health problem for cats. All cats groom themselves daily, usually swallowing loose hair from their coats. Sometimes, these loose hairs will come together into a ball and be placed in the digestive tract instead of passing through your cat's seat. When your cat starts coughing and hitting, you usually cough up a hairball. While it may be disgusting in the end, most cats can chase hairballs without problems.

In rare cases, hairball can pass into the cat's intestines, creating blockages. Prevention is a very serious problem, and it can be life-threatening if left untreated. If your cat is constipated, malnourished, or has a dull clothing, it may become infected. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should see a veterinarian immediately. You can prevent hairballs and blemishes by brushing your cat 2 - 3 times a week to remove loose hair. You can also feed her a diet designed to control hairballs as well.

Urinary tract infections

Urinary tract infections are also a common health problem in cats. Urinary tract infections are more common in male cats that have not been vaccinated, although females may face this problem as well. When a cat suddenly stops going to its trash can, this problem is usually the cause. Another symptom is when a cat's urine starts to smell very bad. If you suspect that your cat has a urinary tract infection, you should take him or her to a veterinarian. Your veterinarian can treat the problem with medication, and make recommendations to help prevent this problem in the future.

Feline leukemia

In the past, feline leukemia was a major cause of death in cats. These days however there are drugs available to treat the disease. To treat the disease, your cat will need to be given a gun before it can be exposed. Although death does not occur immediately, cats exposed to feline leukemia usually do not have a long life. If you know that your cat has feline leukemia, you should not let other cats around him, because the virus is highly contagious.

To protect your cat, you should always make sure you take it to a veterinarian for regular check-ups. If you always let him know his goals, he should live a healthy and productive life. While some health problems are inevitable, most of them are. You can also keep your cat inside, which will protect him from many health problems. If your cat is a foreign cat, regular visits to a veterinarian will keep him or her healthy. As long as you take your cat to the vet and keep him healthy - he will be your friend for years to come.
